Simeon saw the star shining and accepted its invitation to see Jesus, the little boy who was born in a manger. This means that his dream or wish to see the saviour of the world was realized. His wish to see Jesus Christ became real in his life. God answered Simeon’s expectation through his love, sending the God-child.
Perhaps his eyes shone when he saw Jesus. His heart rejoiced and was jubilant. Halleluiah! The hope of Israel is real and true. There is a hope for everybody.
In fact, Simeon’s experience encourages us to reflect about our faith in Jesus and in his power to realize our dreams.
My parents have always said that I am a dreamer. I think they are right. To dream is one of my impulses or motivations to carry on my life, family, ministry, etc. I dream a lot and I believe that it is possible to realize some of these dreams, because I am sure that God will support me to bring them to fruition.
What is your dream for 2008? Do you have any special ones?
In our last church in Brazil we were celebrating a New Year service and we asked people to share their dreams for 2005. One person said: I have one. I would like to live 100 years. I said: Wonderful! But I thought it was an ambitious dream!
Living in this country I can say that it wasn’t an ambitious dream because I have met many people who are over 95 years old.
People are driven by dreams. If we dream something especial for the future we can promote a big difference in our life, family, church and society. In our dreams we can prophesise blessings both to ourselves and everyone else. We can expect new ways for our lives. We can overcome the barriers of ordinary life.
It is an amazing experience producing different things and expecting supernatural things in our lives. I hope that you and I can have a dream for our lives and church. I hope that we can spend our energy to get them. I hope to get the same experience that Simeon got: to see my dream realized.
May God bless us in our dreams.
